A. Richard "Dick" Sennett

A. Richard “Dick” Sennett, 87, of Pinehurst, passed Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, in Pinehurst, with the Rev. James M. Labosky officiating. Rite of committal will be at a later date.
Mr. Sennett was born May 14, 1923, in the beautiful Adirondack village of Saranac Lake, N.Y., to the late Allan Richard Sennett Sr. and Mildred Mary Morgan Sennett. He spent his childhood years in Saranac Lake and graduated from Saranac Lake High School, earning two athletic scholarships that launched his college dreams. Years later, Dick was honored by induction into the Saranac Lake Sports Hall of Fame for basketball, football and baseball.
After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, Dick graduated from Clarkson University in 1947. He was a member of Lamba Iota fraternity. He and his bride, Donna, married on Feb. 8, 1969. They lived in Syracuse, N.Y., and Wilmington, Mass., where Dick worked 33 years for General Electric. He and Donna retired to Pinehurst in 1988 and enjoyed 23 wonderful years of golf, travel, and friendship.
Dick was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and the Pinehurst Country Club, where he managed to shoot his age at 80 years old, winning the Tin Whistles tournament.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna H. Sennett; two daughters, Karen Young and husband, Chip, of Naples, Fla., and also of Fayetteville, N.Y., and Barbara Keller and husband, Larry, of Ventura, Calif.; four grandchildren, Trevor Young and wife, Sharon, of Rochester, N.Y., Taylor Brown and husband, Adam, of Manlius, N.Y., Lauren O’Neil and husband, Dylan, of Torrance, Calif., and Hayley McEachen and fiance, Chad Carty, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren, Anna Young, Allison Young, Avery Young, Sawyer Brown, Hudson Sennett Brown and Eleanor O’Neil.
