Joan A. Hunt

Joan Arnold Milligan Hunt died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in Pinehurst.
She was born March 13, 1925, in New Haven, Conn., into an Army family. Her father, Maj. Gen. Archibald Arnold, a West Point graduate, moved the family to numerous bases throughout the country. She was educated at Smith College and Stanford University, where she majored in art, which she continued for life in study, teaching and marketing through numerous galleries in the Eastern states and California. Her married life included the Army, foreign service in Cairo, Egypt, golf and retirement in the Pinehurst area.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Palmer Hill. She is survived by a son, Peter Arnold Hill, of Southern Pines; a grandson, 1st Lt. Richard Treat Hill, of Vicenza, Italy; and a brother, Treat Arnold, of Hanover, N.H.
A gathering is planned for a sunny day at her family’s summer place on Cranberry Lake in the Adirondack mountains of New York to bid farewell.
