Buster Dock Jessup, 85, of Vass, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Vass Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bruce Benton officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Grove Cemetery, with full military honors. A visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, and at other times at the home.
Born in 1925, Mr. Jessup was the son of the late Levi Sutiel and Bessie Smith Jessup. He retired from military service after serving in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and N.C. National Guard. He was an active member of Vass Presbyterian Church until his health made it difficult for him to attend. He served the church faithfully as both a deacon and an elder, and especially enjoyed singing in the choir.
Mr. Jessup is survived by two sons, Dale Jessup and wife, Sherry, and Vince Jessup and wife, Angela, all of Vass; three grandchildren, Brandon Jessup and wife, Tiffany, Storm Jessup and Levi Jessup; one great-grandson, Troy Jessup; one sister, Carol Jessup, of Vass; one brother, Billy Jessup, of Vass; and one stepson, Lewis Dowdy, of Sanford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal McDuffie Jessup.
