Maryann M. McCormick

Maryann Margaret McCormick, 74, of Pinehurst, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at her residence.
She was born May 29, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to Zelma and Charles Dickey. She spent her youth in Toledo and attended M.R. Waite High School, where she served as editor of the school paper, junior class secretary and senior class vice president. She served as a member of the Toledo Schools radio station for two years and hosted a program titled “Youth Views the News.”
She attended Ohio State University and received a B.S. in education in 1960. While at OSU, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority, served on the student senate and was a class officer during her senior year. She earned a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Toledo in 1963.
She married Thomas McCormick in 1962. During their marriage, they were transferred 14 times to various locations throughout the country.
After retiring to the Pinehurst area, Maryann was employed by FirstHealth of the Carolinas as a coordinator for behavioral services and as director of development marketing. She later served as the executive director of Drug Free Moore County.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas McCormick; a son, Michael McCormick, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer; three grandsons, Conner, Ian and Braydon, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a brother, Bruce Dickey, and sister-in-law, Barbara, of Toledo.
