Queen Watkins Smith died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Pugh and Smith Funeral Home chapel, Carthage. Viewing was held from 1 p.m. Tuesday.
She is survived by her husband, Ted; one sister, Edna Ruth Watkins, of Ellerbe; two nieces, Linda Faye Watkins and Lisa Watkins; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Language arts teacher Lisa Elliott had her head shaved by hairstylist Nichole Jenkins during an after-school event at Crains Creek Middle School May 3. Elliott promised students she would shave her head if they helped her raise money to participate in the Disney Half Marathon, which raises funds for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
