Mary E. Garner Dunlap, 86, of Southern Pines, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at St. Joseph of the Pines, in Southern Pines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Southern Pines, with the Rev. Gregg Newton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Kennedy Funeral Home, in Robbins, and other times at the residence of Joe and Loretta Garner, 231 Sunset Drive, Robbins.
Born and raised in Robbins, she was a daughter of the late Jonah Garner and Laura Brown Garner. She retired as a nurse’s aid at Pinehurst Nursing Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dunlap; and sisters Ann Early and Geneva Lemonds. She is survived by sisters Amanda L. Cole, of Sarasota, Fla., and Etta Faye Stephenson, of Ocala, Fla.; and brothers Paul Garner, of Seagrove, and Joe Garner, of Robbins.
