Marjorie Eckersley White, 86, of Southern Pines, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines, with the Rev. Paul White officiating. Burial will follow in Pinebluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives before the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
Mrs. White was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Rockingham, and spent her early years with her parents, Ida and Wilbur Eckersley, in Pinebluff. She lived the majority of her life in Southern Pines, where she raised her family. Mrs. White will be remembered as a kind, strong and loving woman, who always put caring for others’ needs before her own.
She is survived by her four children, Jack White, of Springfield, Va., Carol Ward, of St. Augustine, Fla., Mary VanHook and husband, Bill, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Betty Peterson and husband, John, of Chapel Hill; as well as seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Harold Eckersley, of Southern Pines. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, John E. White.
