Sylvia Callahan Green, 63, of Waldorf, Md., formerly of Vass, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. John Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Green was born Dec. 10, 1947, in Sanford, to Henry E. and Sadie Callahan. She was a member of Vass United Methodist Church, and was a loving wife and homemaker. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Green is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, retired Col. John R. Green (U.S. Air Force), of Maryland; one son, David E. Green, of Maryland; her mother, Sadie M. Callahan, of Vass; two sisters, Patricia Cameron, of Carolina Beach, and Susan McKinney, of Angier; and one brother, Eddie Callahan, of Vass. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry E. Callahan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a gift in Mrs. Green’s name be made to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, 100 North Charles St., Suite 234, Baltimore, MD 21201. Checks should made payable to Johns Hopkins University and include a note stating that it is for the Kimmel Cancer Center in memory of Sylvia Callahan Green.
