Robert W. Bufmeyer
Robert Wendell Bufmeyer, 93, of Southern Pines, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Kingswood Nursing Center.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with burial in Canton, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 16, 1917, to William T. Bufmeyer and Edith G. Yant, in Canton, Ohio. He married Yvonne E. Phillips on June 18, 1939, in Parkersburg, W.Va. They made their home together in Canton, until moving to North Carolina in 1998, when they joined their son. They were happily married until her death in 2000.
He owned Bufmeyer’s Construction Co. for 28 years and was a 32nd degree mason.
He served in Gen. Patton’s 3rd Army 16th Armored Division during World War II, from 1944 to 1946. His self-taught creative talents were released during the later part of his life through his art and antique frame restoration business. His artistic legacy continues down through the generations. His many words of wisdom will not be forgotten in the minds of all who knew and loved him.
He loved his God, country, family and fellow man. A special thanks to the staff at Kingswood.
Surviving are his son, Gary W. Bufmeyer and wife, Treva of Southern Pines; daughters, Suzanne Bufmeyer-Myers and husband, Jeff, of Indio, Calif., and Dianne Bufmeyer-Riemenschneider and husband, Scott, of North Canton; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines is assisting the family.
