Kathryn W. Rose
Kathryn Wilson Rose, 93, formerly of Pinehurst, died Friday, July 29, 2011, from pneumonia, six weeks after a fall and broken hip.
In 2007 Mrs. Rose moved to Aberdeen, Md., to live near, and then with, her daughter Wendy Rose O’Steen.
Mrs. Rose was born March 27, 1918, in Ossining, N.Y., trained at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City and married her high school sweetheart, Howard Manning Rose Jr., on June 3, 1939. The couple settled in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., where they raised three sons and a daughter. Mr. Rose worked for the New York Central Railroad until its merger with the Pennsylvania Railroad, creating Penn Central, and the family relocated to Downingtown, Pa. In 1977 Mr. and Mrs. Rose built a retirement home in Pinehurst, where Mr. Rose enjoyed golf. A life long knitter and doll-maker, Mrs. Rose enjoyed serving 13 years (making over 4,400 dolls, and receiving her 17,000-hour pin) as a toymaker at Moore Regional Hospital. She also made many more than 100 baby blankets as gifts and for Project Linus Blanketeers.
Mrs. Rose is survived by Jon Howard Rose (wife, Barbara, son Timothy) of Grantham, N.H.; Mrs. David A. O’Steen (Wendy) of Aberdeen, Md.; Kevin Wilson Rose (wife, Linda, daughter, Kelly) of Delaplane, Va.; and Barry Morton Rose (wife, Helene, sons, Nicholas and William) of Downingtown, Pa.; as well as extended family members. Mr. Rose died in 1991.
Mrs. Rose’s remains will be interred at Dale Cemetery in Ossining, N.Y.
