Carmen M. Wallick

Carmen Doris Myers Wallick was born Nov. 3, 1917, to Walter Darist Myers and Altha Belle Davis Myers in St. Henry, Ohio. The family moved to Coldwater, Ohio, on her second birthdy. Carmen remained in Coldwater and after graduating high school went to work for the New Idea Spreader Company in the advertising and direct mail department.
She met Kenneth Wallick at the skating rink in Celina, Ohio. They married on Aug. 2, 1942. During their first years of mariage they lived in San Antonio, Texas, and a son, Keith, was born to them on Oct. 17, 1943. Carmen had jobs on and off, but mostly took care of the house and cared for her in-laws in their home. She taught Sunday school, was a Red Cross volunteer, and volunteered in the rest homes and the local hospital. Carmen was an accomplished seamstress and helped many of the neighborhood children with their homework.
Carmen and Kenneth retired to Laurens, S.C., after Kenneth worked 32 years in the payroll department at New Idea. They immediately made many friends and were very involved in their church. After Kenneth passed away in February 1994, Carmen moved in with close friends Pastor Jim and Charli Thyne, and she lived with them for the last 15 years of her long and fruitful life.
She is survived by her son, Keith Wallick; daughter-in-law, Lydia Wallick; grandson, David Wallick; granddaughter, Stacy Wallick; brothers, Forest Myers and Reba, and Roger Myers and Vonoly Myers; close friends Jim and Charli Thyne; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 11, at Christ Fellowship Church, with Pastor Jim Thyne officiating.
