Anne Whitlow Francis, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home.
She was born in Winston-Salem to Harry D. and Geneva Cornatzer Whitlow on April 14, 1925. Anne retired from W.E. (AT&T) after 38 years of service. While with Western Electric, she was in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Kwajalien. (She was the only woman sent to this remote island.) After her return, she lived in Burlington, Greensboro, and Myrtle Beach, S.C. In Myrtle Beach, she operated a restaurant, Breakfast by the Sea, seven years, and retired again for good. She then moved to Aberdeen, where she had resided since. She was very active with the Telephone Pioneer and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonita Anne Patterson (Jim), of Pinehurst; son Stephan G. Francis, of Andrews; three grandchildren, Gregg (Jennifer) Patterson, of Seven Lakes, Kristi Patterson, of Raleigh, and Elizabeth (Michael) Chepul, of Austin, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Dana and Samantha Patterson, of Seven Lakes; brother William Whitlow, of Winston-Salem; niece Linda Bazemore, of Jefferson, Ga.; nephews Don Whitlow, of Stockbridge, Ga., Mike and Matthew Whitlow, of Winston-Salem, and Mark Whitlow, of Ocklawaha, Fla.
