James E. Chappell

James Edward “Ed” Chappell, 69, of Sanford, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Cool Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ira Sutton presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. (The family requests that Ed’s co-workers at Progress Energy and his friends with Line Construction serve as honorary pallbearers. Please be at the church no later than 10:45 a.m. so you may sit as a group.)
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, in Sanford.
Mr. Chappell was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Moore County, to the late James Oscar and Ruby Ethel Carter Chappell. He worked as a line supervisor/inspector with Progress Energy (CP&L) for more than 44 years. He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and was a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Hammons Chappell, of the home; two sons, James E. “Jim” Chappell Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Cumming, Ga., and Phillip Chappell and wife, Jennifer, of Sanford; sister Louise Denning and husband, George, of Carthage; five grandchildren, Alex, Troy, Bryce, Brock and Layce Chappell; brothers-in-law, Willie, Lynn and Larry Hammons, all of Tennessee; a niece, Beth Denning, and a great- niece, Katherine Denning, both of Carthage; and many other nieces and nephews.
