BUIE

Kate Cole Rancke Buie, 84, of Rockingham, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the Watson-King Funeral Home chapel, in Rockingham, with the Rev. Allison Farrah officiating.
She was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Henry C. and Hannah Jane Cole Rancke.
Mrs. Buie was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a gifted artist. She had no plans for her art except to enjoy it, and to learn and develop as much as she could. She began her art studies as a student at St. Mary’s in Raleigh, and attended Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Fla. She then went to New York City, where she studied in the Arts Students League and received brief instruction from Robert Brackman. She became a prominent artist in North Carolina and a professional artist in her 30s. She enjoyed watercolor painting in her earlier years and oil painting later in her career. People can enjoy many of her paintings all around Richmond County.
She is survived by a daughter, Hannah Buie and husband, Ron Shaw, of Rockingham. She was preceded in death by a son, William Graham Buie IV.
