Paul C. Greene

Paul C. Greene, 93, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eureka Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ed Boyce, the Rev. Richard Rodda and the Rev. Bill Stewart officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, and at other times at the residence.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Columbus Preston Greene and Beulah Bridges Greene. A graduate of Appalachian State University, he began teaching at Farm Life School. At the start of World War II he joined the Army Air Corps, serving in the 8th Air Force. After the war, he returned to Moore County to teach in Aberdeen, and continued his education with a master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. He later went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Carthage, where he worked as a postal clerk and mail carrier for many years.
After retirement, he and his wife, Nell, spent many years as volunteers in the community, and maintaining their prized garden.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nellie Blue Greene; sons Ronald Greene and wife, Phyllis, of Chapel Hill, Donald Greene and wife, Penny, of Charlotte, and Bob Greene and wife, Deb, of Chapel Hill; sister Violet Wright and husband, Hugh, of Shelby; and grandchildren Sarah Greene and husband, Ian Cundiff, Martha Goodyear and husband, Zach, Katie Greene and Paul Greene.
