R. Perry Crowder
R. Perry Crowder died on Thursday, April 14, 2011.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst.
Perry was born on December 13, 1929, to Dorothy and Harvey Crowder in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, Johns Hopkins University and earned his MBA from Columbia University. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Perry met his wife of 53 years, Barbara Lee, in New York, N.Y. They had three children, and the family lived in Scarsdale, N.Y., while Perry enjoyed a successful career in financial printing sales. Perry was an elder at Hitchcock Presbyt-erian church and a member of the Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.
Perry and Barbara Lee retired to Pinehurst, in 1995. Perry became involved in a new hobby, computer technology, learning everything he could about e-mail, the Internet, photo editing and more. He also enjoyed playing tennis, working out at the Fitness Center, and volunteering with the Sandhills Community College. He served as president of the Pinehurst Lake Association.
Perry loved people and will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness and his generosity.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee; his twin daughters, Jean Crowder Murphy and husband, Kyle, of Eagle, Idaho, and Lynn Crowder Porter and husband, Dave, of Westwood, Mass.; his son, Andy and wife, Karen, of Ellicott City, Md.; and his grandchildren Brett, Megan, Caroline and Kelly.
