DACRE
Donna Bernice Silver Dacre, 66, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, in Pinehurst.
Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Pinelawn Memorial Park, with services to follow at 3 p.m. at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Dacre was born Nov. 17, 1944, in Salt Lake City, to Francis James Silver, a Utah state legislator, and Shirley Reynolds Silver. She attended Skyline High School and the University of Utah, where she was affiliated with the Phi Mu Sorority. Donna was a member of the Olympus Mounties Riding Club of Cottonwood and was an excellent horsewoman. She appeared as Liat in the Skyline High School production of "South Pacific." After college, she moved to New York City and Nashville. In 1969, she traveled to Los Angeles, where she met John Dacre, her beloved husband of 40 years.
After retiring in 1995, Donna and John moved to Pinehurst, where Donna was at her happiest. She worked for Belk for 12 years at the Chanel and Clinique makeup and fragrance counters, as well as the Ralph Lauren and dress departments. She also served as Belk’s Charity Day coordinator. Since January 2010, she consulted for Belk’s special events, especially related to her longtime expertise of coordinating and moderating local fashion shows.
Donna was a member and past president of the Sandhills Business and Professional Women. She also belonged to Women of the Pines and served as their publicity chair and fashion show chair for many years. Donna was very active organizing the Miss Moore County, Miss Noel, Miss Outstanding Teen and Miss Greater Sandhills pageants and served on their board of directors. She was an avid reader and belonged to the Act II Book Club, and truly enjoyed bridge club with her friends for more than 15 years. Last, she enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hats and the Christian Women’s Connection.
Donna will be so missed by her loved ones and friends.
She is survived by her husband, John Dacre, of Pinehurst; her sister, Cynthia Sue Anderson and her husband, Gary, of Salt Lake City; her nephew James B. Anderson and his wife, Kimberly, of Landenberg, Pa.; her nephew Chris Gorman and his wife, Theresa, of Ossining, N.Y.; her niece Carole Freeman and her husband, Thomas, of Ardsley, N.Y.; her niece Clare Gorman and her husband, Jeffrey Zuckerman, of Tuckahoe, N.Y.; her niece Linda Curtis, of Yonkers, N.Y.; her nephew Richard Gorman Jr., of New York City; and many, many great nieces and nephews.
