Joseph A. Prescott

Dr. Joseph Andrew Prescott, respected physician and U.S. Army veteran, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, in Pompton Plains, N.J. He was 83.
Dr. Prescott was born Oct. 7,1926, in New York City. At 18, he joined the U.S. Army and served in both World War II and the Korean War, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He returned to the U.S. to finish his undergraduate degree at Columbia College, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated from New York Medical College in 1952 and completed his residency training at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.
During his career, Dr. Prescott practiced anesthesiology, respiratory medicine and acupuncture, in addition to his private practices in Manville, N.J., and St. Clairsville, Ohio. He was a member of the American Medical Association and was highly regarded for his devotion to patients and love of his work.
Dr. Prescott retired to Pinehurst in 1989. He enjoyed singing, fishing and lawn bowling in his free time.
He is survived by his three children, Janet Prescott Weber, of Stockton, N.J., Joseph Andrew Prescott Jr., of Mount Horeb, Wis., and Rachel Elizabeth Prescott, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; as well as two grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane Weber, of Gainesville, Fla., and Caroline Marie Weber, of South Hadley, Mass.
Services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Neshanic Reformed Church in Hillsborough, N.J.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 RT 206 Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
