May R. McFarland
May Rita McFarland, 86, of Southern Pines, passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at her home at Belle Meade.
Born April 26, 1924, Maria Rita McKeon McFarland was the daughter of the late Joseph E. McKeon and May Sheals McKeon, formerly of Bronx, N.Y. In 1942, she graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School, Bronx, N.Y. May attended Hunter College in New York City and received her associates degree in business from Widener College, Chester, Pa., in 1970.
Mrs. McFarland resided in Upper Providence Township, Media, Pa., for 60 years and was a founding member of the Rose Tree Fire Company Auxiliary in 1952. She was an active member of Nativity B.V.M. parish and the Upper Providence Republican Party for more than 30 years.
May was employed for 25 years with Scott Paper Corporation; presently known as Kimberly Clark Corporation, as a human resources manager. She represented the Scott Paper Corporation as a judge in the Pennsylvania Junior Miss America Contest for a number of years.
Mrs. McFarland is survived by her sister, Marjorie Ann McKeon Sullivan and husband, Thomas J. Sullivan, of Naples, Fla.: her son, Mark B. McFarland and wife, Ellen McFarland, of Pinehurst; her daughter, Margaret R. Flounders and husband, Donald C. Flounders, of Media, Pa.; granddaughter, Courtney Maye Flounders, of Media, Pa.; grandson, Capt. Thomas C. Flounders and wife, Jeannie Doi Flounders, of Ft. Knox, Ky., along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial Mass and celebration of her life will be held Friday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Belle Meade Chapel in Southern Pines.
