THROWER

Gilbert Hill Thrower, 82, of Pinebluff and formerly of Rockingham, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
He was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Richmond County, a son of the late Annie Hill Thrower and Thomas K. Thrower Sr. Prior to a disability, Mr. Thrower had been employed with Seaboard Coastline Railroad and CSX for 40 years. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, in the chapel of Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham with the Rev. Lester English officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Thrower, of Pinebluff, and Penny Broach and husband, Larry, of Earlysville, Va.; four grandchildren, Rebecca Scarboro and Sarah Scarboro, both of Raleigh, Heather Broach, of San Diego, Calif., and Kelley Padilla and husband, Aldo, of Falls Church, Va.; and a brother, A.J. Thrower, of Rockingham. Mr. Thrower was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Linker Thrower, and daughters, Janice Thrower and Carol Scarboro.
