MEYER

The Rev. Lawrence Meyer, 73, of Pinehurst, passed peacefully at home into the arms of his Lord Friday, Sept. 10, 2010.
He was born in Oceanside, Long Island, the son of the Rev. T. René and Janet Mason Meyer.
After graduating from high school in Bellevue, Ohio, he went on to graduate from Capital University and Trinity Lutheran seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
His lineage included over 40 Lutheran ministers. In his 40-plus years of ministry, he served the following churches: Puritis Lutheran Church, Cleveland, Ohio; St. John Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton, Ohio; Advent Lutheran Church, Solon, Ohio; St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ravenna, Ohio; St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hickory; Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, Wilmington; St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ocean Isle Beach; and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Greenville.
Larry’s love and passion for the Lord was returned in kind by the people he served.
An avid golfer, Larry retired to Pinehurst in 2006 to enjoy both family and his love of the game. Immersed in his Scottish heritage, his appreciation for the lush area courses came naturally. He was a member of Whispering Woods Golf Club.
As a member of the Artists League of the Sandhills, he humbly pursued his study in water color. His eye for beauty is captured in his many paintings.
He was preceded in death by Emily Zingale Meyer to whom he was married from 1968-1982.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Barton Meyer; children, Brian Hite, of Duns Muir, Calif., Matt (Kristi) Meyer, of Southern Pines, Erika (LJ) Elrod, of Raleigh, and John Meyer, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Logan and Mason Elrod, of Raleigh; mother-in-law, Angela Geer, of Ravenna, Ohio; brothers, Bruce (Martha) Meyer, South Thomaston, Maine, and Douglass (Sheila) Meyer, Celina, Ohio; cousins, Steven (Abbe) Debolt, Whispering Pines, and Tim (Anne) Keller, Branchville, N.J.; aunt and uncle, Mary and Don Debolt, Newton Falls, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved cats, Mac and Lucy.
A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1517 Luther Way, Southern Pines, on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Phisterer presiding.
