Norwood W. Batten

Norwood Wesley “Dick” Batten, 68, of Whispering Pines, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with the Rev. Mike Branscome officiating. Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m.
Dick was born Sept. 2, 1942, in Nash County to the late Eldridge Tyner and Norwood Wesley Batten Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Army, and prior to retirement was the president and CEO of his own manufacturing business.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Betty Loyd Batten; son, Gregory Wesley Batten, of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Robert Wayne Batten Sr. and wife, Wanda, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, William Batten, Courtney, T.J., Tyler and Tanner Dobrucky; stepdaughters, Christy Dobrucky (Tom) and Cindy Loyd; stepson, Jeffrey Loyd; stepsisters, Frances Smith, Inez Allsbrok and Virginia Durham; nephews, David McNeill, Wayne Batten and Wesley Batten; niece, Harriett McNeill; and many cousins. Dick was predeceased by his parents; stepfather, Jerry Winstead Sr.; sister, Betty Lou McNeill Griffin; and stepbrothers, Pete Winstead and Jerry Winstead, Jr.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
