Carolyn Chester Watson, 80, of Raleigh, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010.
Born on April 2, 1930, to Dr. Pinckney Jones and Bertha Cochran Chester, Carolyn graduated from Southern Pines High School in 1948 and from Duke University in 1952. After teaching school overseas for two years, she returned to Southern Pines and married Jordan Kimball Watson in 1957.  She taught at A.B. Combs and Vena Wilburn elementary schools in Wake County for 28 years. After she retired from teaching, she enjoyed helping care for her grandchildren.
She took a very active role in her kids' lives.  She served on the board of Northbrook Country Club and the Tarheel Aqua Racers. Always the life of the party, she will be missed.
Carolyn is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Storey, of Corpus Christi, Texas; her four children, Jonathan Watson, of Raleigh, Dr. Caroline Watson Silver and Paul Silver, of Cary, Jean Watson, of Raleigh, and Tim and Staci Watson, of Fayetteville, Ga., along with seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. P.J. Chester, her mother, Bertha Chester, and her husband, Jordan Kimball “Kim” Watson. 
A memorial service will be held at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh Friday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m.  The family will receive friends after the service.
