Winifred Nogard, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at home, after a brief illness.
Winifred (“Winnie”) was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Waterloo, England. She was predeceased by husbands Albert Durkovic in 1959 and Axel Nogard in 2000. Winnie is survived by a son, Allan Durkovic, of Irvine, Calif., and two daughters, Carol Weisman, of Southern Pines, and Lee Durkovic (Sam Levine), of Ballston Spa, N.Y. She also had two stepsons, Alan Nogard (Donna), of Raleigh, and Gary Nogard (Joyce), of Sarasota, Fla. She had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Winnie enjoyed a professional career as an interior decorator. She had a passion for design and was an avid reader. She loved golf, cooking and traveling the world. Winnie also loved a good laugh with family and friends.
Her spirit was kind, caring, generous and strong. She lived a long and fulfilling life surrounded by love, and will be fondly missed by all.
A special thanks to her neighbors at Knollwood Village, who made her life in Southern Pines so enjoyable.
A private burial will be held at a later date in Ballston Spa, N.Y.
The family has entrusted services to Cox Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory of Vass.
