Randall L. Moss, 84, of Aberdeen, died peacefully Thursday, March 25, 2010, with his family, in the home he built.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Burial, with military honors, follows at Ashley Heights Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Branscome, the Rev. Joe Forbes, and Dr. Zeb Moss are officiating.
Randall was born May 31, 1925, in Hoke County, to the late Debbie Lee and Sarah Louise Ragsdale Moss. He attended Ashmont Elementary and Hoke County High School until he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served with the Wolfhound Regiment in the Philippines. After his service to his country, Randall returned home and worked with Moss-Chamberlain Builders of Aberdeen until his retirement.
Randall had 49 years of recovery in AA, was a past member of the Lions Club and was a member and a deacon of First Baptist Church of Aberdeen.
Randall was the founder and organizer of the annual Aberdeen International Sardine Festival. The Town of Aberdeen proclaimed December 12, 2009, as Randall L. Moss Day in Aberdeen for his humanitarian services to the community.
Randall is survived by his wife, Dot Coward Moss; daughters, Linda (Reggie) McNamara, of Morehead City, Kay Moss, of Aberdeen; stepdaughter, Patricia (Charles) Crowder, of Raeford; stepson, Charles (Nikki) Winchester, of West Bend, Wis.; brothers, Hubert (Lamelle) Moss and Dr. Zeb (Evelyn) Moss, both of Aberdeen; sisters, Lois Barnett, of Raeford, Mabel Chamberlain, of Aberdeen, Freida (Ray) Snyder, of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
