Coy Stephen “Steve” Lewis III, known as “PaPa Bub,” died Monday, March 22, 2010, in Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Madelon K. Lewis, of Charlotte; daughter, Kimberly Reed, and special friend, Andrea Andrews, of Roanoke Va.; son, Coy Stephen Lewis IV and wife, Megan, of Charlotte; grandchildren Derek Reed, Megan Reed, Michelle Reed, Kelsie Nipper and Jaden Lewis; sister, Claudia Lawrence and husband, Donald, of Southern Pines; brothers, David Lewis, of Foxfire, and Mike Lewis and wife, Nancy, of Hingham, Mass.; mother-in-law, Doris Kerns; brother-in-law, Steven Kerns, of Southern Pines; and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy Stephen Lewis Jr., and Ruby Lewis; and his beloved dog “Tar Heel.”
Steve, who was born in 1946, fought a long hard battle against esophageal cancer for the last two years. Steve and Madelon were the owners and operators of Steve’s Cleaners in Robbins. He then moved to Charlotte to complete his degree in civil engineering, after which he worked for the City of Charlotte and went on to run his own business as D&M Design. He was an avid Carolina Tar Heels fan and cherished any time he could spend while having his family together. He was well known as the best BMX racing dad around.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Elise Presbyterian Church, 200 North Middleton St., Robbins.
