Maria Luisa Sanchez, 82, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Pinehurst, with her family by her side.
She was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Puerto Rico, to the late Juan Ruiz and Luisa Rosa Ruiz. She was a member of the Comunidad Cristiana Vida De Reino (Community Christian) Church in West End. Mrs. Sanchez lived in New York from 1952-1992, then she moved to be closer to her only daughter in Pinehurst. She was a “Bingo Queen,” and enjoyed the many friendships that she formed through playing bingo in the Sandhills.
She is survived by her only daughter, Rosa Recio and husband, Raul, of Pinehurst; one niece, Maribel Mendez, of Aberdeen; and a nephew, John Flores, of Aberdeen. She also has a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who reside in Aberdeen. She has one brother who survives her and resides in Puerto Rico. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reinaldo Sanchez.
Services will be held Monday, March 15, at 5 p.m. at Comunidad Cristiana Vida De Reino (Community Christian Church), 235 Esther Road, West End, with Pastor Lemuel officiating.
