NELIGAN

Robert Emmett Neligan, 82, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, surrounded by his family.
A memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (corner of N. Ashe and E. Vermont) in Southern Pines. Visitation to follow the service. Interment will be held at a later date, with family members.
Bob was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cary from 1969 until 1996, then St. Bernadette Church, when he moved to Fuquay-Varina. He had been a member at Saint Anthony of Padua since 2005. He was active in the Meals on Wheels and Lions Club while in Fuquay-Varina, and he continued with Meals on Wheels when he moved to Southern Pines. Bob was an avid genealogist, gardener and bricklayer.
Bob is survived by Elizabeth Daisher Neligan, his wife of 29 years. The late Betty Hacquard Neligan passed away in 1979. He is also survived by his children, Patrick John Neligan, of Sarasota, Fla., Jacque Obermeyer (Robert), of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary Neligan (Richard Scott), of Southern Pines; stepchildren William Brothers and Cynthia Wedding, of Fort Collins, Col., and Timothy Brothers (Shirley), of Raleigh; grandchildren, Luke Mauk (Marjorie), of Fernley, Nev., Pat Mauk, of San Francisco, Calif., Michael and Jessica Obermeyer, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Joseph Neligan, of Triangle, Va., and Erin Neligan, of Bradenton, Fla.; great grandchildren, Lily and Nate Mauk; stepgrandchildren, Amanda and Jimmy Wedding, of Fort Collins, Col., Jason Brothers, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Mary Jo Womeldorf, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Carolyn Marshall (Richard), of Chaparral, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
