MURCHISON

Roger Wayne Murchison, 60, of Vass, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his residence, following a short battle with cancer.
He was born July 12, 1949, in Lee County to the late Robert Edward Murchison. He was the owner and operator of a sales construction company. He was a member of Grace Chapel Church, member of Woodlake Country Club, member of the Moose Club and member of the Elks Club. He was past president of the N.C. Pine Needles Association; was a Boy Scout Master of the Occoneechee Council of N.C. Troop No. 810; was the manager and owner of the Light House Quartet in the 1980s and traveled throughout the East Coast. He had several hit records on the gospel charts. Wayne enjoyed boating, golfing, fishing and hunting. He loved helping people, but most of all he loved the Lord. His grandson thought he hung the moon!
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Jernigan Murchison, of the home; his stepmother, Helen Murchison Cole, of Sanford; a son, Roger Wayne Murchison Jr., of Cameron; a stepdaughter, Ginger Jernigan, of Sanford; brothers, Robert Edward Murchison Jr., of Sanford, and Dale Anthony Murchison, of Cameron; a sister, Mary Ann Batchelor, of Sanford; three grandchildren, Landon Scott Wester, Roger Wayne Murchison III and Bruce Tyler Murchison; and one great-grandchild, Caden Tyler Murchison.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grace Chapel Church. The funeral will be held at Grace Chapel Church at 1 p.m., with Dr. Rudy Holland presiding. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
