Sarah Cox Clayton, 70, of Pinehurst, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
A native of Lee County, Sarah was born April 15, 1939, to Norris and Ella Cox, of Sanford. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University, and taught English at Union Pines High School for most of her career. She later worked at Aberdeen Middle School and Farmlife Elementary in the media center. She loved reading mysteries, telling ghost stories, traveling, antiques, New England, covered bridges, cats and especially enjoyed talking about her new grandson, who was her pride and joy. But most of all she loved her family, her friends and her Lord. She was a member of Culdee Presbyterian Church in West End.
Sarah is survived by her husband of 45 years, Harold Clayton, of Pinehurst; her daughter, Amber Clayton, of the home; her son, Matthew, daughter-in-law, Lori, and grandson, Griffin, of Huntersville; and her brother, Roger Cox, of Sanford.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home on New Hampshire Avenue in Southern Pines. The funeral will be held Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at Culdee Presbyterian Church, 916 N.C. 73, West End.
