Richard E. Cadwalader
Richard E. Cadwalader, 68, of Pinehurst, was born March 24, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., and died at his home in Pinehurst, on April 8, 2010. He was one of six children born to Merrill Rees and Ella Becker Cadwalader.
Rich was a resident of the Addison Lutheran Welfare Home from age 7 until age 11, when he became a foster child of Earl and Doris Toneman Saville. The Savilles and their three natural daughters, Jeanne Saville Zimmerman, Patricia Saville Hershey and Pamela Saville Schroeder, became his family.
Rich graduated from Kankakee High School in 1960 and Eastern Illinois University in 1964. He entered the business world as an assistant director of purchasing at the University of Illinois, and completed his career as vice president of business at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio.
Rich married his college sweetheart, Sheila Smith, in December of 1964, in Urbana, Ill. They have three children, Amy Cadwalader Venesile, Richard Ryan Cadwalader and Katherine Cadwalader Jamison; and five grandchildren, Hannah Miller, Nathan Venesile, Paige Venesile, Sydney Venesile and Noah Venesile.
He is also survived by his mother, Doris Saville; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Smith; son-in-law, Christopher Venesile; brothers-in law: Thomas Schroeder, Mark Zimmerman, Stephen Smith, Michael Smith and William Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Rich was an avid golfer and loved his home in Pinehurst. He was most proud that his first three holes-in-one were on Donald Ross’ Pinehurst No. 2.
The Cadwalader family will hold a celebration of life reception at Pinehurst Country Club on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m. All friends are invited.
Rich requested that memorial donations be made to the Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois. Donor cards will be available.
