Proposal on Water Sounds Reasonable
R obbins has responded to the Moore County Board of Commissioners on the possibility of a water deal - this time with a breakthrough offer. This is the second response from the Town Board, and the county should jump at this chance to go with the flow.

Meet Another Area 'Blessed' by Fracking
Want to know some of the blessings fracking could bring to North Carolina and northern Moore County? Look at another place with "north" in its name: North Dakota.
Development Effort Needs a Boost
Since Sept. 11, 2001, life as we knew it has changed dramatically. Americans have had to deal with new economic realities that threw traditional measurements onto the trash heap of history and demanded fresh standards of behavior.
Passing Judgment on Other People
I was in my early teens when my brother came out. It is hard to express what a concussive blow that was to a military family in the early 1970s. I know that it's not easy for any family, but military families are particularly isolated units. There is little room to absorb the shock.
'Forward': Suddenly a Sinister Word?
F orward. It seems like such a nice, positive word. We call someone with foresight "forward-thinking." When you repay a good deed done for you by doing a similar favor for someone else, we call that "paying it forward." When traveling, moving forward is a good thing. So you'd think no one could have a problem with an upbeat word like "forward."
Our Education Industry Needs Some Retooling
After I graduated from that liberal re-education camp in Chapel Hill, I looked for the job to which I felt entitled. I found it at a Chapel Hill radio station that proudly paid me minimum wage. The pay was the same when I started to work for local station WEEB.
Amendment One Battle Lost, but Young Will Win War

Letters to the Editor
Quick to Help
I would like to thank the Pinehurst Fire and Police departments for their quick and compassionate service.
Not a Positive Word
Usually, I just roll my eyes at Dusty Rhodes’ propaganda and name-calling offerings. His latest column, however, is so far off the mark that further comment seems appropriate. Mr. Rhodes’ attempt to paint the Obama Campaign slogan, “Forward,” as positive is absurd!
It's Their Home Too
I don’t know, but just maybe, all those homeowners who do not want the deer and other animals (whose homes we have taken by eminent domain) who eat their vegetation might just want to build a green house around their properties. For myself, I am willing to share!
A More Sensible Park Option?
I agree with Kathy Lange’s letter, “Enjoy the Park Just as a Park” (May 11).
Generous Residents
The Women of The Pines would like to express our sincere appreciation to The Pilot and its staff for your assistance in publicizing our April 28 rummage sale at the Old West End Gym. Your advice and notice placements were invaluable. In addition, our thanks go out to all the donors who filled the gym with their “treasures” and to all the shoppers who found the bargains.
Read It Carefully
Kindly advise W. Warner (“Settling the Score,” May 13) that the opera’s not over till the fat lady sings.
Shelter Also a Victim of Economy
When our economy suffers, people cut back, and unfortunately, donations to animal shelters are now at a minimum. The Haven is in dire need of donations to keep its 800 animals fed and cared for.
