For over three decades, the Arts Council of Moore County has presented many nights of unparalleled musical experiences with the Heart ’n Soul of Jazz. This year’s event, on Saturday, Feb. 16, will be no different, when singer and trombonist Aubrey Logan brings her sassy jazz to Pinehurst.

As can be imagined for an event such as this, many unforgettable experiences have occurred over the years. Legends have graced the stage, including Shirley Horn, Marian McPartland, Ellis Marsalis, Milt Jackson and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Future legends, such as Karrin Allyson, Nicholas Payton, and Tierney Sutton, have brought a new vibe.

The event has also created a stir off-stage, including a conga line wrapping around the Cardinal Ballroom at Pinehurst Resort, a marriage proposal, a visit from a movie star (Molly Ringwald), the opportunity to help some great New Orleans jazz musicians after Hurricane Katrina, and the dessert receptions after each concert where concert-goers rub elbows with these great artists.

Tickets are still available: $75 for VIP reserved seats and $65 for general reserved seats. The ticket price includes the concert, meet-the-artists dessert reception after the concert in the Carolina Dining Room, complete with Irish coffee, wines and sweet delicacies, and a chance for door prizes.

Seating is jazz club-style with intimate candlelit tables. Cocktails are available for purchase during the performance and intermission. Purchase your Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz tickets now at the Arts Council offices (Campbell House, 482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines), by calling (910) 692-2787, or online at

Pinehurst Resort also offers a special dinner menu with an all-inclusive price; call (910) -235-8434 for reservations. Or, you can complete your romantic evening with an overnight package at Pinehurst Resort that includes a bottle of champagne delivered to your room, a jazz concert ticket, entrance to the dessert reception, dinner and breakfast. For overnight reservations and prices, call 800-487-4653.

Created in 1986 as a benefit for the Arts Council’s many visual, performing and youth arts programs, Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz has raised over $330,000 over the years. Major sponsors are American Airlines, Duke Energy, King Fisher Events, Pinehurst Resort and Wells Fargo.
