Area golf courses are planning to participate Feb. 1-7 in a FORE & Feed event sponsored by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina in support of Moore County's BackPack Pals effort to feed hungry children.

The FORE & Feed Event will allow members and guests to play their respective courses wearing blue jeans as a fund-raiser for BackPack Pals.

Golfers can choose from the following courses to play a round in jeans: Foxfire Resort and Golf Club, Hyland Golf Club, Knollwood Fairways, Legacy Golf Links,Little River Golf and Resort, Longleaf Golf and Country Club, Midland Country Club, Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club, Mid South Club, Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, Seven Lakes Country Club, Southern Pines Golf Club, Talamore Golf Resort, Whispering Woods Golf Club, Country Club of Whispering Pines.

Golfers desiring to participate will pay the course’s published rate along with the tax deductible donation of $10 and one of the requested single-serve food items. This donation will provide the opportunity to wear jeans while playing a round of golf.

Participants are asked to make checks payable to Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. If you are paying by cash and would like a receipt, include your name and mailing address.

BackPack Pals of Moore County was created eight years ago to meet the needs of children known to have little or nothing to eat on the weekend. The program began in one school with 25 children.

There are now 24 schools and 1,100 children in the program. Food items needed for the children are single-serve cereal, nutrition bars, applesauce, juice boxes and raisins. They can be placed in the specially decorated boxes located in the club's golf shop.

Jane Pajak, council member of the Sandhills Food Bank Regional Council, is chairing the event. For more information, contact Linda Hubbard, Director, Moore County BackPack Pals program, 692-5959, Ext 2407.

Welcome to the discussion.
