Coming off a 7-1 league loss Friday at Gray’s Creek that snapped a five-game winning streak, the homestanding Vikings used a six-run rally in the bottom of the third to erase a 3-0 deficit and take a 6-3 lead against the 2-A Jets.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the third frame, senior Jeff Thompson got Union Pines on the board with a two-run double. Dalton Garner led things off in the frame by reaching after he was hit by a pitch, then Phillip Hall and Robinson both reached on bunts to load the bases.
Next sophomore Avery Siege doubled to right-center field to plate two runs. After Robinson scored on a wild pitch, Siege crossed the plate on an RBI base-on-balls by Noble Davis to push the Vike lead to 10-6. Three more runs crossed the plate before the Vikings were finished, giving the home team a seven-run edge.
The Jets struck for a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to bring the weather-shortened six-inning tilt to its final tally, as a massive storm cell moved through the area.
