Make the Best of It

How can the trails around here be “too dangerous” for bikes (“A Fine Ride,” Feb. 20)? I see bikers all the time enjoying the trails here in Southern Pines and Pinehurst.

There is no difference between the American Tobacco Trail and the trails around this area other than some parts of the ATT are paved and horses are allowed there.

In some instances the ATT can be pretty dangerous. Last year there were 12 cases of robberies, assaults and one exposure.

Mr. Thorpe was incorrect in saying that bikes are not allowed on the trails here in the area; they are. They may not be the best trails in the world, but they’re all we have and we have to make the best of it.

I myself am glad to have at least something that I can ride after work.
