Holding Out Hope

I’m writing in response to the front page article “Midland Crafters Coming Down” (March 8).

I loved Midland Crafters. For years I enjoyed going there to browse or purchase a unique gift. It was one of the places to go with an out-of-town guest.

It saddened me when the doors closed. I watched as the ivy wove a shroud as Midland Crafters became a parking lot for Ironwood. I knew as it began to deteriorate that its demise was in the making. I wondered if it would be torn down and replaced by a structure bigger and better. Perhaps it would be an addition to Carolina Eye.

This week it happened. Midland Crafters was demolished piece by piece. But there’s a glimmer of light in all of this. I was surprised and excited when I read in The Pilot that the Martin family has no current plans. Where Midland Crafters once flourished there will be green space. Dare I hold my breath?

For now, all I can say is, “Hallelujah, Amen.”
