Alfred Moore Chapter Presents Awards

Alfred Moore Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, presented Jerrilyn Crowell, of Southern Pines, with the Community Service Award.

She was honored for her many hours of volunteer service to MANNA!; Race for the Ribbons, a benefit for the Moore Regional Hospital Cancer Care Fund; Susanna Wesley Circle of the Southern Pines United Methodist Church and her many hours of work with Women Build, Habitat for Humanity.

Elizabeth Cox, executive director, Jana Green , board member, and Judie Wiggins, volunteer coordinator, all from Habitat, spoke to DAR members about Crowell's volunteer work for that organization.

Carolyn Stevenson, co-leader of the Susanna Wesley Circle, introduced all visiting members of the Circle, and told of the many projects Crowell participated in over the years. Marcia Rowbottom, Regent praised Crowell and presented flowers and a check from the chapter. Another certificate from NCSDAR will be given this spring.

At the same CCNC luncheon, Judie Wiggins was presented with the Alfred Moore Chapter, Certificate of Appreciation Award for 2013.

Brenda Lawler will act as the DAR liaison to the Women Build Habitat for Humanity Project in the Sandhills. The Alfred Moore Chapter will present an American flag to each family whose house is built this year. This is the first time this DAR chapter has partnered with Women Build.

The program presented by Wiggins featured the newest pictures from the work groups. In her speech, she stressed the concept of women helping women with a hand up and not a hand out.
