The Union Pines baseball team defeated East Montgomery Thursday at Viking Field in Cameron to claim its second comeback win of the week.

Trailing 4-0 to the visiting 1-A Eagles, through two-and-a-half innings of action, Union Pines went on to score the final five runs of the game. The charge allowed the Vikes to tally a 5-4 nonconference victory and run their current winning streak to three games in the process.

The Vikings got their final run in the bottom of the seventh inning against East Montgomery on a bases-loaded suicide squeeze by sophomore Avery Siege. The perfectly executed play plated junior Dalton Garner to cap off the second Union Pines final at-bat win of the week.

Monday in Asheboro the Vikings plated three runs in the top of the eighth inning to complete an 8-5 comeback victory against the 3-A Blue Comets (1-2).

Senior Tyler Barber got the pitching win for Union Pines Thursday, tossing two solid innings in the sixth and seventh frames.

Leading the way on offense for the Vikes against East Montgomery were Emmitt Carden (2-for-4, 2B, R, RBI), Noble Davis (2-3, RBI, SB, HBP) Siege (2-4, RBI) and Phillip Hall (1-3, HR. RBI, R, SB, HBP).

With the win Union Pines moved to 3-1 on the season while East Montgomery fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Union Pines is scheduled to open its 3-A Cape Fear Valley Conference campaign this evening (Friday) in Fayetteville against Douglas Byrd (0-2-1) at 7 p.m.
