The Junior League of Moore County wrapped up another successful "Academy for Success" on Feb. 23, at the Douglass Community Center, in Southern Pines.
In attendance were 40 Moore County sixth-graders who participated in four sessions.
The sessions included:
"Fit and Healthy," taught by junior league member Kate Williams, was a favorite amongst the girls and promoted not only a healthy active lifestyle, but a healthy inner spirit.
"Both Sides of Beauty," taught by Junior League members Jessica Edwards and Trevie Cato Smart, focused on the importance of inner beauty and taking care of yourself.
"Goal Setting and Motivation," taught by Junior League member Ceci Clark, was a helpful and informative class that introduced the girls to goal setting and gave them ideas to get on the right track now so that they are prepared for their future.
"We enjoyed lunch donated by The Lunch Box that Rocks, Pizza Cafe and Rita's Italian Ice," says a Junior League spokesman.
Beverages were provided by FirstHealth.
The goal of the Academy for Success is to help young girls evaluate where they are now and where they want to go in life; choose good role models in order to stay on the right path; to respect themselves and surround themselves with people that they respect; to set objectives that help them in reaching their goals; nurturing the mind, body, spirit and soul.
"We hope to help the girls realize that they can all be 'the person that they want to be,'" says the spokesman.
The girls were given awesome "swag" bags filled with items that related to the sessions they participated in, which help to incorporate what they learned from the day into their lives.
"Many thanks go out to the members of the Junior League of Moore County, JLMC Community Committee and our sponsors that made this event possible," says the spokesman. "The Junior League of Moore County holds an Academy for Success every fall and spring. You can check our website for upcoming dates at www.jlmcnc.org."
The Junior League of Moore County is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
