A pledge by Moore County commissioners has resulted in a grant to bring water to a West End neighborhood.

Interim County Manager Wayne Vest announced at Tuesday's regular meeting of the county board that the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center was awarding $41,563 to expand county water lines to the Edgewood Terrace community.

"The citizens of that area are excited," Vest said. "We have already called the property owners to inform them of the news."

In September 2012, the board voted to move forward with grant funding to provide city water to Edgewood Terrace residents following complaints that homeowners were having difficulty obtaining water from their wells.

In other news, the board unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the week beginning March 11 as Girl Scout Week in the county.

Moore County Girl Scout membership director Laura Douglass appeared before the board.

"Girl Scouting encourages the finding of self confidence and positive values, which are then taken back to the community," she said. "We thank you for passing this resolution in recognition of scouting."
