Two games into another high school baseball season, Pinecrest is 2-0 and so is right-hander Aaron Reimer.
The Patriots took advantage of five bases on balls, and a two-run single by Matt Epley, to score four runs in the top of the third inning on the way to a 5-1 victory at Southern Lee Friday evening.
The Cavs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Epley on a run-scoring triple by Ethan Helsman. Reimer came on in relief with one out in the bottom of the second. The senior, who picked up the win, also in relief, in Wednesday’s 16-6 victory over Union Pines, allowed no runs and just one hit the rest of the way. He struck out seven while walking one.
The Patriot third began with walks to Ryan Bender, Culley Bayless, Tristan Helms and Austin Embler to force in the tying run.
Another came in on a walk to Dylan Wallace before Epley hit ball through a hole in the right side of the infield for two more, making it 4-1.
The Patriots added their final run in the top of the fifth. They finished with four hits, but drew 10 bases on balls. The Cavs ended up with three hits. Coach Jeff Hewitt’s squad is scheduled to travel to Sanderson on Tuesday.
Also 2-0 is the Pinecrest junior varsity team. The Patriots defeated Union Pines 10-1 on Wednesday and Southern Lee 13-5 at home on Friday.
