Due to the tragic killing of 20 sweet children and six adults at Sandy Hook, I decided to contact my senators relative to gun control.
Please note that I did not say “gun confiscation.” I was disappointed to hear from Sen. Burr that he will fight any effort to “further infringe on the Second Amendment rights of citizens,” while Sen. Hagan says she will not “unnecessarily” infringe on Second Amendment rights.
Who are we kidding?
Do we honestly believe that the authors of this amendment had weapons of mass destruction in mind for ordinary citizens?
Somehow many proponents of the Second Amendment fear that proponents of gun control intend to ban all guns.
This is not true.
We want reasonable laws that protect lives from murder by military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. We want to close background-check loopholes.
This obviously will take a multi-pronged approach, including better mental health care and screening.
Please stop accusing those of us who believe in sensible gun laws of wanting to take away all guns.

Once again the thought of defending ourselves from bad guys that have what ever they want, gets missed here. That was a young man with a mental problem left unattended. Laws need to be inforced and sick folks need help. The GUN LAWS that kept the principle or teacher from having a gun, made it easy for this crime to be committed there. Do something to correct the problem. You pass a magazine law like NY. Now cops have to reload but bad guys don't. Really? Great thinking! But we can lock him up longer for breaking the magazine law with dead cops everywhere! Come on!

And the beat goes on. The response from the senators was exactly what I would have expected from both. Their response is designed to pacify the NRA based voting block that both need to insure they stay in office. Their hiding behind the 2nd amendment to cover their gutless inability to do what is both reasonable and necessary just shows how corrupt and ineffective the system has become. Only a complete idiot would even suggest that the solution to the problem is to simply arm everyone to the teeth. Evidently, we have a bunch of complete idiots, the very people who should be prevented from having even a sharp object.

What amuses me is the apocalyptic tone of the NRA and its amen corner. There is little talk (and much less chance) of firearms being banned. We're talking about weapons of mass murder, that while beneficial to NRA (up 500,000 members since the slaughter of the six-year-olds; what's not to like?), many of us appreciate small children and would like to see them grow up.
As has been noted, we've seriously reduced the number of drunk driving accidents. But then, we didn't think the solution to drunk driving was more alcohol.
If I were in charge there would be full-color, high definition photos of that classroom in Newtown on every billboard and on every TV show until we get those AR-15 Kid Killers (tm) out of our civilian armories. That wasn't what James Madison was talking about.

"Enforce The Damn Death Penalty", this coming from the same group who wants to protect the sanctity of life and is violently opposed to abortion. So let's make unwanted children be born to a parent or parents who don't want them, wait for that unwanted child to become a criminal, clog the court systems at great expense, house them in prisons for many years while they exhaust all their legal rights, then kill them. You probably missed my solution to all our problems, so I'll lay it out again, just for you. This plan not only solves the gun questions, it also solves the budget problems as well. (Please hold your applause till the end, thank you): First, we take everyone currently on the welfare rolls and put them in the military. Next, we take everyone who is underemployed and put them in the military. Finally, we take everyone who wants to shoot bad ass firearms and put them in the military. Then we can eliminate all the social programs in this country. No more unemployment benefits, food stamps, free health care since now, everyone will be employed. Based on historical data, congress will vote to fund the military to whatever level the military says they want, so getting the funds to do this will be no problem. The result: everyone is happy. Democrats have achieved full employment and a robust economy. Republicans have a gigantic military needed to rule the world and have eliminated all the "give-away" programs they hated. And the good news for you, everybody has access to all those really cool military weapons that make you feel powerful, safe and very manly. We don't have to worry about criminals because everyone is either a rich, powerful business executive, an elected official or a member of the military, all of whom are considered great American Patriots. Now see what can happen when you put your efforts into something positive rather than just being against stuff.

gun control? sales control? mind control? for me its very simple, people kill people. always has been the case, theres no arguement against it, anything else is b.s. history shows that murder does not distinquish between race,gender or age. we call it many things, war, justice, and revenge, yet murder is murder. the thing is that a gun has never committed murder, or a bomb an assasination, it has always been man. if you want to stop mass murder, then the issue is the mind of the insane person acting out against society. I will say that todays man is not the man that this earth created. we have long lost our sense of community and community responsibility. I am more inclined to say that mass murder is the creation of society due to the economic, social, and religious aspects that do not fit in humanistic society we are designed to operate within. I think the bigger problem is the idea that our liberties are tools of special interest and thoughtless polititions bending to knee jerk reactions. people that have never considered the tiimeless implacation of such gun controls has never lived under the yoke of oppression. people that over react have never depended on the skills of providing by hunting. people that react in opposition to our rights have never defended their families from the insane. in the long run more will suffer because of controls. the idea that taking away my rights helps me is insane as those ideas of killing.

Middleman522, according to my instructor on all things relating to firearms (skylinefirepest), 100 rounds don't come in "clips", they come in magazines. As my instructor would say, you are ignorant about firearms and you should not make any further comments on this subject until you educate yourself, which includes going to a shooting range with him to see how many things you can hit from 20 yards. When it comes to solving problems in this country, conservatives have one word that they go to. NRA!! That's it, Wayne, never let a good crisis go to waste. Here is a little quiz for you, middleman522: How would criminals have firearms holding 100 bullets if we didn't permit those type of weapons to exist in everyday life? They only exist because we permit them to exist. Those of you who demand these things be available are responsible for their being in the hands of criminals. Us "bleeding heart liberals" aren't the reason cops face criminals who have these types of weapons, that honor belongs to all the people who think like you.

Yukon - Listen up. I did not say you should be executed for having your gun stolen. A couple of years in jail would be sufficient for that. However, if the gun you allowed a thief to steal was used in a capital crime, you should face the same penalty as the killer.
At some point a gun owner should be responsible for the security of the weapon. An AR-15 Child Slayer(tm) is designed for the sole purpose of killing as many people in the shortest time possible. Such a weapon should not be carelessly left of any ding-dong to use. If you own it, you'd best keep it secure.

Dentman, trained? About a second per round, probably. I can do a second per round with a bolt action but it won't be well aimed...but I have never tried to be fast and accurate except for fun!! Most people seem to think that the AR's are really fast weapons but they are no faster than any other semi-auto. And to put to rest the idea of "modern weapons" that we seem to hear from the anti's so much apparently semi-auto firearms have been around for well over a HUNDRED YEARS!! The AR platforms have been out since the sixties, maybe before.

If the stats are correct, and I say if...then riddle me this. How can the argument be made that removing guns works? I say it cannot work. The mind of the offender is what needs to change. No guns were used to kill over 3000 on 911. Britan has a higher violent crime rate than ANYWHERE? And they don't have guns to speak of. (well hop on board at last...yeah...the criminals do.) ...So why do we (you ultra libs) persue this instead of treating the problem? Because you are lazy...that's why. We all like the easy way out to make us feel better. Unfortunatly, you will sacrifice others to achieve your pipe dream. You do nothing about the drunks on the road because you also drive cars and dont want that taken away. You drink so you dont want that taken away. Thatcher, hope you are having a good evening. I watched that video from DHS, and it makes more sense to me to have some, ANY employees, that are armed. They can be the firstline defense in a situation where you have a random shooter. If they start getting taken out on a regular basis, this mess will stop!!!

I suggest that any American that wants to buy a firearm of any kind, or skip the TSA search lines at the airports, be able to go to a government approved company or agency and have a real background check done and receive a picture ID that allows you to go through an easy line at airports, and buy a gun and ammo. This way the government does not know whose buying guns, but we do. In 40 years or so, we will have weeded out a lot of bad guys from having guns. There is no quick fix. As long as bad guys have nasty weapons, someone must have them on the good side. As long as someone like Eric is AG, "in my opinion", I want a gun!!

Wdd, the C-mag was a circular affair that came out in two "mouse ears" configuration. I know they were tried by the military and pretty much rejected because of reliability. They were primarily for the M4, M16, and other variants and they may have been made for other weapons but I don't recall seeing them for anything but the 5.56. They are advertised now and then ( usually as "re-built" ) and are very pricey and I certainly wouldn't use one if the military doesn't see fit to use them. The only totally reliable high capacity mag is made by the flashlight people...Surefire...which was what they called their flashlights. These hold sixty rounds and the average street gang banger won't likely have one because they are really pricey. The thirty and twenty round M16 mags are reliable but I don't really think of twenty and thirty rounds as "high capacity", sorry to disappoint you gun haters out there. My preference when endangered would be an M249 or the M240 but our government doesn't see fit to allow us to own them, only the Mexican drug lords can get them from our government!!
