The Pinecrest girls kept pace a game behind first place Lumberton by defeating Richmond Senior 45-23 in Rockingham Monday evening.

Felicia Painter led the Patriots, 10-6 overall and 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference, with 18 points. Trailing 11-10 late in the first quarter, they held the Raiders (4-11, 2-2) without another field goal until there were just over two minutes left in the game. They outscored the home team 33-4 over that stretch.

The other scoring leaders for the Pats were Dessence Waddell with nine points and Janea Williams and Jasmine Chalmers with eight each.

The Patriots’ only league loss came about three weeks ago at home to Lumberton (13-3, 3-0). They were scheduled to entertain Hoke County on Tuesday before traveling to Lumberton for a 6 p.m. game on Friday. Scotland High, who Pinecrest defeated last Thursday, also has just one league loss.
