Patriot Freshmen Defeat Lumberton

The Pinecrest freshmen basketball team overcame a 14-point deficit after three quarters to defeat Lumberton 52-49 Thursday afternoon.
Trailing 39-25, the Patriots outscored the home team 27-10 in the fourth period and held them without a field goal. Their eighth three-pointer of the game, by Mishak McRae, came with 16 seconds remaining to provide the winning margin.
It was the first game for coach Steve Lassiter’s squad in two weeks. Justin Marks (two threes) and Will Lassiter (four threes) shared team-scoring honors with 13 each. Ten of Marks’ points came in the fourth quarter. Jadan Thomas added a dozen points and McRae contributed nine (two threes).
The next game is at Scotland High on Monday.
