There Has to Be a Better Way

On Jan. 19 I received a Vehicle Tax Block Notice from Moore County in my mailbox.

My credit score is around 800, since I always pay my bills on time. The letter said the first bill was sent to me Sept. 21, 2012.

Funny, if I had received the tax bill, then I certainly would have paid it.

I figured I should try to pay the bill I had never seen online Saturday evening.

I went to the Moore County Government website and followed the instructions to pay the tax.

I ended up being transferred to a third party website and was told there would be a convenience fee to pay online: $2.85.

Can someone please tell me, with today’s technology, why we cannot pay our taxes directly to the Moore County Tax Department without using a third party website that opens us up for possible identity theft?

I pay my MC taxes the same way I pay the rest of my bills. Online banking with FCB. Its free and the bills always pay on time, no stamps, no envelopes to lick, no walking to the mail box. Never had a security issue.

is it really free fugitiveguy? look closely at your statement and if the property taxes are paid online to the tax department, you are being charged a "convenience fee" not from your bank but through the tax website. let me know what you find

no convience fee Buddy. I go over my statement each month and balance it to the penny. I would catch those sneaky rascals if they tried.
