An unusual visitor accompanied speaker Lee Crutchfield, from Aloha Safari Zoo, at the last Whispers luncheon.

Crutchfield brought an African spotted genet, a nocturnal animal who made himself comfortable in the faux fur jacket hood of Helen Gibbons.

Crutchfield shared the story of how his lifelong love for animals has led to the establishment of this wonderful refuge for animals of various species, mostly exotic. It is open on weekends, and a visit there is a delightful experience for all ages.

The next Whispers luncheon will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Country Club of Whispering Pines. Helen Gibbons will speak on "Hounds with Hearts."

The menu includes mixed green salad, honey-glazed salmon, rice pilaf, broccoli and brownies. For reservations, send a $15 check to Mary Lou Winn at 40 Pine Lake Drive, Whispering Pines, NC 28327.

The deadline is Feb. 8. For information, call Lori at (910) 949-2314.
