Cavs Sweep Mustangs in Hoops

North Rowan swept both the girls’ and boys’ basketball games Tuesday in Robbins.

The visiting Lady Cavaliers rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final three-plus minutes to tie the game at 78, sending the game into overtime where North Rowan won 85-81.

The game was not without controversy when in the final three seconds with the Lady Mustangs on top 78-77, a mad scramble for the ball near midcourt resulted in a foul being called on a North Moore player.

North Rowan’s Aliyah Farmer hit one of two foul shots to send the contest into an extra period.

While the Mustangs lost the contest, senior Jalisa Davis scored a career-high and possibly a school record 47 points for North Moore. Fellow senior Jessie Sheffield added 13 points for the Mustangs.

Special Washington had 24 points for the winners. North Moore falls to 5-4 in Yadkin Valley Conference play and North Rowan improves to 7-2.

In the boys’ contest, the Mustangs held North Rowan to more than 20 points under its season scoring average, falling 56-30.

North Moore led much of the first quarter and a three-pointer by North Rowan’s T.J. Bates with two seconds left in the opening period gave the visitors their first lead at 11-8.

Quashan Davis paced the Mustangs with 15 points, including four three-pointers. Malik Ford led the Cavaliers with 15 points.

North Moore falls to 5-4 in conference play while the Cavaliers continue to lead the conference with a 9-0 mark.

North Moore travels to Chatham Central Thursday for another important conference showdown. The girls’ game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ game.
