Obama's Attitude Is Disgusting

After President Obama’s Monday press conference, is there anyone left in America who thinks this guy has a single bipartisan bone in his body?

In all my years of observing politics, I have never seen a president so inflexible and hyperpartisan. His “my way or the highway” attitude is disgusting. He seems to think that since he won re-election, the Republicans have no voice in anything.

Debt limit? Just shut up and do what I say. If you call me to negotiate, I won’t answer the phone. Default? Your problem.

Here are some news flashes for this president, who seems to think he was elected king rather than president.

First, you are the president of all Americans, not just the 51 percent who voted for you. The job of president is to be the leader of the American government.

Nearly half of all Americans didn’t vote for you, and most Americans want you to work with Congress to find solutions to the problems we face. That takes leadership, and you were elected to provide it.

Second, it’s true that you won re-election. Guess what? A total of 279 Republican senators and congressmen also won their elections in November, and they feel just as strongly about their mandate as you do about yours. Do their voters count less than yours?

The country is fairly evenly split between the parties; it’s not 100 percent Obama supporters, 0 percent others.

Finally, the Republicans may or may not be successful in getting you to stop borrowing 40 percent of what we spend. But one thing is certain: If the Republicans don’t do it, our lenders eventually will, and that will be a lot more painful (think Greece). You can be an adult and do it now, or the markets will do it later.

Ah, the cries of impotent rage and the thump thump thump of petulant foot stomping from the losers. Music to my ears.

The Rethuglican bullies long for the good old days of wimpy Democrats who'd fold up every time they said mean things about them. The President is not that kind of Democrat. Not any more. He extended olive branch after olive branch, and the 'thugs smacked it away because their number one priority, in Mitch McConnell's words, was to make Obama a one term President.

That's over. You lost. And the President isn't obligated to negotiate with people whose only agenda is to destroy him.

Thanks to the recent "fiscal cliff" crisis, the President has, in the words of Charles Krauthammer, shattered and broken your party, due in large part to the utter lack of leadership from Orange John Boehner. He's discovered that he can peel off some Republicans who aren't willing to destroy the country's economy to embarrass the Democrats . THOSE are the people he's going to be bipartisan with, while the far right dwindles into a few loud nutcases who couldn't get elected without the most extreme gerrymandering. As that happens, you can look to the right to become even more loud, shrill, and extreme. It's a death spiral for the far right, and good riddance.

No wait, we can just start collecting the Obama benefits, won't have to work, won't have to look for jobs, don't have to worry about health insurance, we can just apply for a few bennies and be the new welfare recipients.

If there was ever a reason to re-elect a president, Mr. Obama is showing us why. Poor John. Unable to accept that Obama not only won re-election, but is the only president to do so with more than 51% of the vote for both of his terms since Eisenhower. Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and Bush all failed to make that mark.

And congressional Democrats out polled the Republicans by over a million votes. As the Republicans observed yesterday at their Virginia retreat, they held on to the house solely through gerrymandering. Some mandate.

You also seem to forget that since Mr Obama was first elected, the Republicans devoted themselves to obstructing his programs and making him a one-term president. They failed spectacularly on the second, but continue to offer nothing but obstruction to this very day.

The Republican Party has lost it relevancy and exists only by force of habit. It can only continue as the Southern White Men's Conservative Party for so long. The clock is ticking.

afchief, Only Congress (specifically the house) can increase our debt. When they appropriate money for whatever reason, it's their decision. If you don't like their spending, talk to them.

But here's the thing. There's no excuse for appropriating funds and then refusing to honor those bills by refusing to increase the debt limit. They need to grow up and learn to legislate.

0

AFCHIEF 4 months ago

Heim when is Obama going to quit lying about spending cuts and balancing the budget. Obama promised to cut the debt in half in his first term but instead added $6 trillion more to the debt. He lied about Romney shipping jobs overseas now one of his biggest campaign supporter Chrysler announced they are going to start building Jeeps in China. WOW, if I was the Detroit auto workers union I'd demand my money back.

0

Middleman522 4 months ago

Heim what about Reagan?? 49 of 50 states and 58%, in his second term. You missed the point that Barry is acting like Dusty, rather intolerant, and 49% of American does not like much he's doing. Of that 51% of the vote, he won all states with NO voter ID. How interesting!! He now wants no debt limit, one of his buddies in the House want no term limits, and he wants gun control. Do you not see the control freak syndrome here. You could if it were Trump doing this crazy crap!

0

dustyrhoades 4 months ago

Wow. Chief's really repeating that talking point about Chrysler building Jeeps in China? .The one that cost Romney Ohio? That is absolutely hilarious.

Romney claimed that Chrysler building Jeeps in China was going to cost Ohio jobs. No less a personage than the CEO of Chrysler went on the air and pointed out that they were building Jeeps in China to sell to the Chinese and that they were actually adding jobs in Ohio. Friends in Ohio were telling me at the time that a lot of. people they knew who were on the fence turned against Romney for that, and the local media savaged him for continuing to repeat the lie. Romeny never led in Ohio, but that really put the nail in his coffin. And Chief's still repeating that losing gambit?

How out of touch with reality is this guy?

BTW, looks like the Rethuglicans are offering a "clean" three month debt ceiling extension, no spending cuts as a condition. Looks like you crazies lose again.

0

dustyrhoades 4 months ago

Eric Cantor: We must pay our bills and responsibly budget for our future. Next week, we will authorize a three month temporary debt limit increase to give the Senate and House time to pass a budget. Furthermore, if the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that time, Members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for failing to do their job. No budget, no pay.

I like it, with one caveat. The proposal for "no pay" provides that if the House passes a budget that the Senate doesn't, then the House gets paid but the Senate doesn't. This gives the House no incentive to pass a budget they know will pass the Senate. In fact,. it gives them just the opposite incentive: to pass a bill they KNOW the Senate can't swallow. I say, no budget, no pay for anyone, including the POTUS.

0

dustyrhoades 4 months ago

Wait a minute...have you guys not told Chief yet that Romney lost?

0

What was the debt when Reagan left office as a percent of gdp. How much was the daily interest on that debt. The interest alone on the current debt is over 1billion dollars daily. The above premise makes about as much sense as saying a family with $100 dollars in total debts and a family with $100,000 in total debts are the same simply because they are both in debt. middleman - I made a very simple assertion, namely that Obama won more than 51% in each of his presidential elections. If you can prove me wrong, please proceed. If you wish to change the subject, you're free to do that. But my original claim is unassailable.

furtiveguy - Reagan doubled the national debt during his years. Between Reagan and Bush 1, they tripled it. Bush 2 doubled it again. The last balance budget was Clinton's.

0

njc17 - The grandchildren will pay? Really? Did we have to pay for the Spanish-American War? WWI? WWII? Vietnam? Just when did those bills go out?

You seem to think this debt thing is recent or transient. This country has been in debt most of its history (as have most others). The one time the national debt was paid off led to a depression. Just running surpluses is bad for the economy. We've had balanced budgets eight times in our history and every one was followed by recession.

That debt is funding American jobs. Do you really want to give that up?

Editors/management of the Pilot should require Dusty Rhoades to make a choice of retaining his role as a columnist or continuing his acerbic commentary on these message blogs. One role, but not both, would be acceptable and my vote is that he strictly write his occasional column. His style and approach in castigating those with whom he disagrees is atrocious and turns what could be a lively, reasonable, and responsible debate on issues into name calling and slurs. The Pilot could do better and would be doing it's readership a service. This matter has gone well beyond the ridiculous.

0

moonchild7 4 months ago

"The Dems certainly do not have the answer." So says, Yukonjohn. But I say REALLY? The American people voted just 2 months ago and chose a Democrat to not only have the answer but to implement the answer, and he's doing exactly that. Plus much more. I think it's hilarious that Eric Cantor now says that "We must pay our bills" and so will raise the Debt Ceiling for the next three months. THis is really getting good but Yukonjohn, don't be so pessimistic; the future is before us and it looks great. Don't let those NUTZ called Republicans make you believe that the "End is Near." They are wrong and have been wrong and destructive for a very long time now. We don't need them anymore. A Moderate Libertarian Party would do much better I think. Someone should try it.

0

AFCHIEF 4 months ago

MC7 the only reason Cantor is wanting to raise the debt limit for 3 months is because the budget from Harry Reid is suppose to be submitted by 15 April. Which of course is not going to happen. So when Reid fails to come up with a budget it will be the Republicans fault. See how that game is played

0

dustyrhoades 4 months ago

No, Chief, the reason Cantor is caving is because the fiscal cliff vote showed him the Teahadists can't count on enough REPUBLICAN votes to send the country into default and blow up the economy if he doesn't get his way. It's the Twilight of the Teabaggers, and good riddance to them and their economic terrorism.

You're repeating yourself, Chief. Get some new material. Maybe consider throwing out all the Romney talking points. You know, the ones that lost him the election. Then maybe you can stop being such a useless waste of bandwidth and be less of an embarrassment to yourself and your party.

Remember when you told me I should watch more Joe Scarborough? Maybe you should take your own advice:

Had GOP voters followed Buckley’s advice to vote for the most electable conservative instead of the most extreme right-wing choice, Harry Reid would be in retirement and a Republican would be Senate majority leader. For the GOP to win again, it must embrace Buckley’s ruthless, pragmatic approach to primary elections and once again vote for candidates who can win sweeping majorities. That means they must also stop electing idiots in primaries who are little more than ideological indulgences that only advance the Democrats’ cause. WFB never forgot that beating liberal Democrats sometimes requires voting for moderate Republicans. The winds of history have blown Barack Obama’s way of late not because of some irreversible sociological trend but because supporters of Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Christine O’Donnell and Sharron Angle voted to indulge their Republican resentments instead of electing a candidate who could win in the fall.

Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/01/the-republican-partys-time-to-choose-86193.html#ixzz2IRJBilAq

"Indulging resentment"...that's you all over, Chief. Listen to Morning Joe like you told me to do.

0

dustyrhoades 4 months ago

And Chief, remember when you mocked Colin Powell for supporting Obama? Listen to the guy you told me to listen to:

Republicans could kick General Powell around for the next four years or they could get smart and start celebrating the fact this commanding figure still identifies himself as a Republican. Then they should do everything possible to drag him back into a big GOP tent. Unfortunately, the Republican Party of 2013 bears little resemblance to the party of Ronald Reagan, who would have responded to Powell’s concerns with an all-hands-on-deck effort to win the war hero back. That’s because President Reagan lived by the belief that “just because I’m your friend 80 percent of the time doesn’t make me your enemy 20 percent of the time.” If the Republican Party is big enough to reach out to disaffected moderates like Colin Powell, then it is big enough to win the White House back in 2016. The question is whether the GOP will choose to go the way of William F. Buckley or Todd Akin. The party’s survival depends on that choice.

No DR, I'm simply going by what JimHeim says. "The budget guys use a ten-year span when calculating federal budget effects. I don't know why, but they do." I agree with you: you don't know why because you don't understand the difference between projections and actual yearly deficits. And you have no idea what the definition of "deficit" is...you constantly confuse it with debt. Even if you are intending to make a distinction between cash vs. accrual deficits, you're not only in left field, you are in another zip-code: http://www.gao.gov/special.pubs/longterm/deficit/. As the Democrat Chairman, you've said that "the budget guys use a ten-year span...." Post one link, from any site in this universe or beyond, from any of these "budget guys" or their friends, that says Obama has reduced the deficit by $2.4 trillion. (DR--"Thatcher, of course, will just pretend you said something totally different than what you actually said. It is his way"). Really? DR you are invited to please provide the link which JimHeim refuses to post: tell us DR when Obama reduced the deficit by $2.4 trillion? One link, please (and please let it be from Paul Krugman). Jim Heim…..Here are the actual budget deficits during Obama’s first term (source: Congressional Budget Office and US Govt Office of Management & Budget) 2009 – $1.413 trillion 2010 - $1.293 trillion 2011 - $1.297 trillion 2012 - $1.089 trillion

Can you explain your claim that Obama has reduced deficits by $2.4 trillion? That will take some pretty creative math. By the way, no other president in the country’s history has ever had a trillion $ deficit in any year.

Also, during the same period, total government spending increased from $2.983 trillion in Bush’s last year to $3.538 trillion in 2012, an increase of 18.6%. Can you explain your claim that Obama has decreased spending more than any president in sixty years.

You really ought to be more careful with your math.

"Obama has reduced the deficit by $2.4 trillion as fiscal policies are analyzed."

You mean the debt clock is wrong? Oh sheet, never mind its just Jim H with more tall O'tales

0

Thatcher 4 months ago

JRowerdink-- Great post! And it's pointless hoping that JimHeim and his wingman will be more careful with their math. Math to them...like facts... seems not to matter. Cheers!

Mr. Helm, are you serious? I went and read that link you provided. Then l went back and read it twice more. They are as full of it as the claim you make. And, if ANYTHING was cut/saved, it was done by the Rep. House. I don't like the Repubs, but on this particular issue, they stand head and shoulders above the Dems on what to do.

It wouldn't suprise me if President Obama was awarded the Nobel prize in economics

0

fugitiveguy-- This is JimHeim and his wingman's Back to the Future Debt Clock...only they can understand how it works. They would post a link to back up what they say, but facts just bounce off us...much like their Google search "Obama $2.4 trillion deficit cut" bounces back at them. Cheers!

0

Thatcher 4 months ago

Sorry clarabelle, but the folks on my side do not need a wingman...they do very well on their own. But while we have you here, JimHeim and his wingman need a $2.4 trillion link from anywhere in the universe, and since you post heavily researched stuff here, they'd like your help. Don't do it for your country clarabelle...do it for your CHAIRMAN and your COLUMNIST! Cheers!

0

Yukonjohn 4 months ago

Thatcher, I know, went to the link that JH posted, and it was so full of feces that after reading it three times, l concluded that they must all be using some goofy math. It reminded me of when Geo Bush called Reagan's plan "voodoo economics"!!!

0

Thatcher 4 months ago

Yukon! Seems like JimHeim disappears for months at a time, then reappears to lob factless-bombs...only to disappear again. JimHeim says Obama cured polio, invented the modern breast-pump, coined the phrase "Valvoline ready," and reduced the deficit by $2.4 trillion. Actually, JimHeim only said the last one, but it is as truthful as all the rest. Cheers!

0

dustyrhoades 4 months ago

Hilarious. The wingnuts confess they don't understand the math, so it must be bogus. It can't possibly the that they're simple-minded boobs.

You're a pack of morons! Cheers!

I think GJohn is well aware RegMantle is no Repub Conserv as he has been around here for a while. It is a typical lefty response to feign outrage on a subject and trying to falsly place blame opposite of where it belongs. The rest of us had the good sense to ignore it

I didn't say Obama reduced the deficit $2.4 trillion. Non-partisan economists said that. I stand by their work.

In a couple of hours Mr Obama will be sworn in for his second term. I'm sure we all wish him every success.

Speaking of successes, yesterday's Wholesale Slaughter of Six-Year-Olds Celebration was quite the success. Five morons managed to shoot themselves while practicing gun safety. Three of those were right here in North Carolina. We're Number One!

Just watched an interview of Warren Buffett on CBS and he says that of course we need to deal with the debt but he also said that the debt in ratio to GDP still isn't that bad. That is was higher after WWII. He also says that our country is so rich we shouldn't have any poor, hungry, or medically needy people here. Shouldn't Wall Street, with the Dow at record highs again be rallying around our Presidet now and shouldn't those Corporations hoarding money now be investing again in America? I say YES and if they don't want to invest here, the THEY SHOULD GET OUT. Yes, Mr. Heim, those idiot GUN-MONGERS managed to shoot themselves and others yesterday while worshiping their warm gunmetal grips. Sickos.

It is a typical lefty response to feign outrage on a subject and trying to falsly [sic] place blame opposite of where it belongs.

It is a typical wingnut response to feign outrage at something a liberal said or posted while completely ignoring and enabling the equally crass, nasty and vicious things said and posted by fellow wingnuts.

Yet another cheap shot from a coward hiding behind a faceless avatar, too scared to show him or her self in public. Send me your IP and I'll gift you ...

Just for your info never had a gun permit, and I purchased two shotguns from WalMart...stop by wussy and I'll be glad to show you my 12 gauge pump! Along with my .380 Beretta; how about a nice compact .25 Colt automatic?

They are mighty sweet, aren't they?

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Responding to reports that President Obama is considering signing as many as nineteen executive orders on gun control, Republicans in Congress unleashed a blistering attack on him today, accusing Mr. Obama of “cynically and systematically using his position as President to lead the country.”

Spearheading the offensive was Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas), who charged the President with the “wanton exploitation of powers that are legally granted to him under the U.S. Constitution.”

Calling him the “Law Professor-in-Chief,” Rep. Stockman accused Mr. Obama of “manipulating a little-known section of the Constitution,” Article II, which outlines the power of the President. “President Obama looks down the list of all of the powers that are legally his and he’s like a kid in a candy store,” Rep. Stockman said. “It’s nauseating.”

The Texas congressman said that if Mr. Obama persists in executing the office of the Presidency as defined by the Constitution, he could face “impeachment and/or deportation.”

Noting that the President has not yet signed the executive orders on gun control, Rep. Stockman said that he hoped his stern words would serve as a wake-up call to Mr. Obama: “Mr. President, there’s still time for you to get in line. But if you continue to fulfill the duties of President of the United States that are expressly permitted in the Constitution, you are playing with fire.”

"Even if you win, you're still retarded" is your idea of a "high five"?

0

getreal 4 months ago

Mr. Rowerdink, Really? The "king" thing? How about after years of "in your face obstructionism" it's no more Mr. Nice Guy? How about one after the other of embarrassing false moves of the house, i.e. Mitch McConnell filibustering his own bill, not having enough votes of their own party to even present a bill on the fiscal cliff, the insidious Norquist pledge, etc. LOL! Congress passed the bills that caused the spending, now you don't want to pay them? Did you ever run a business? Did you ever buy a car? Do you pay your bills? Well, America has to pay their bills. It wasn't Obama who threatened default, it was the house who said it would be a good idea. We are still paying for the war that continues for the past 12+ years, it has cost us trillions. The house has been posturing and chest pounding, first to guarantee Boehner his reelection to his position in the house and second, to look good to their voters for 2014 and the dastardly Tea Baggers who have more influence on the GOP in the house than they should. Would you work with a bunch of 3 year olds who constantly put their party before the people? Who can blame Obama for finally standing up to them? The house and the GOP approval rate has fallen drastically and continues to free fall. That doesn't look to me like the rest of the country is behind them. I think you have the description of the "disgusting attitude" in the wrong place. If the house and the GOP continue on the path they are on now, by 2016, there won't be any GOP to reach across the aisle to! Unless your party is willing to accept change, it will eventually fade away, along with what is left of the angry old white men like yourself.

0

carlj1161 4 months ago

You totally disgust me. Whining and crying about Obama lying and throwing out the bipartisan card. When the Republican's in this country were set on destroying this country just to get Obama voted out. Guess what if you check the number of votes that were cast, overall, you will find that the Democrats garnered more votes than the GOP. The only reason the GOP won the house was because the districts were skewed in their favor. If they would have been drawn fairly, there is no way the GOP would be in control. My suggestion is for you to grow up, quit whining and learn the art of cooperation. Instead your bound and determined to stand around and throw temper tantrums because you can't possibly fathom the fact that the majority of the voting public thinks the GOP policies are crap.

AFChief ~ as much as you claim to know something about guns and the law, you are one nieve idiot!

I purchased a 410 and a 12 gauge pump before Christmas at WalMart. FYI ~ know-it-all, anyone who is 21 years of age can purchase a rifle or shotgun WITHOUT a permit from the Sheriffs' Office.

Also, background checks are conducted through FBI data bases before purchase.

My .25 Colt was purchased when I was in Law Enforcement; my Berta was purchased before permits were required as another tax revenue source.

So if you want to come confiscate my guns, come on coward! You are nothing but a blowhard! A wannabe somebody who was kicked out of the military with a dishonorable discharge for behaviors not in keeping with male military tradition. Suck on that one nutzoid!
