As we enter year three of the Civil War Sesquicen- tennial, the Museum of the Cape Fear and the Cumberland County Library are hosting the 12th Annual Civil War Quiz Bowl on Jan. 24, at 6 p.m.
For a third consecutive year, the Headquarters Library has partnered with the museum to hold the contest in the Pate Room.
"We are grateful for our partnership with the library. They have the indoor space to seat the more than 100 spectators and 20 contestants that we lack at the museum," says Leisa Greathouse, curator of education.
"In the beginning, we conducted the quiz bowl in our multi-purpose room. We then moved across the street to St. Michael's church. The popularity of a live game show, if you will, has increased our attendance over the years."
Emcee (and founder of the program) Jim Greathouse will ask contestants questions from categories of their choosing. Each contestant is allowed three strikes before they are considered out of the game. The last contestant, 16 and under, is the student winner, and the last adult contestant is a winner, with a prize awarded to each.
There are questions to suit the casual armchair historian to the serious Civil War enthusiast.
If you are interested in participating, call the museum at (910) 486-1330 to sign up, or email leisa.great house@ncdcr.gov.
People can also sign up at the door, and contestants will be admitted until 20 spaces are filled.
